Boy's Hawk

After many years of making the Shawnee and the Lady Hawks we found there was a need for a size that fell somewhere in the middle. Thus was born our Boys Hawk. The head is just a small bit bigger than the Lady Hawk but the eye is big enough to accommodate our large handle which we cut down from 19 inches to 17 inches to keep it looking proportional.

The width of the blade is about 3.5 inches and the length is about 5 inches.

DETAILS:

  • The head weighs approximately 3/4 lb.
  • With the 17 inch handle weighing about .5 lbs., the total weight of the hawk is about 1.25 lbs.
  • Our medium plain or fancy hawk sheath will fit this axe.

Made a boys Xmas dream come true

Posted by Tammi S. on Dec 25th 2024

My 7 year old nephew had been been wanting a "real" hawk for months. After getting the ok from his Dad (bypassing Mom, lol) I ordered the youth hawk for him. To say he was elated on Christmas was an understatement! I wish I could attach a picture, he was grinning from ear to ear, and could not wait to run outside (in his pj's) with his Dad to give throwing a try. He also got the book 'Tomahawk' by David Poyer from anothet Uncle, and so I am certain he will have some wonderful dreams and adventures as he explores the woods with his hawk. I've been in reenacting for 40+ years and was very impressed with the quality of both the hawk blade and handle. The blade came quite sharp, and the handle is a good size for a youth or smaller women's hand.

Worth it at twice the price

My first impression: this is an insane value for a hand forged, USA made hawk. Fit and finish is excellent; no rough edges, the hammer marks add much character to the tool. This is a step up from mass produced hawks from overseas. It comes with a working edge and well finished handle. It is intended for throwing, so the edge needs refinement, and there is a lot of taper to the handle. I am going to use it as a lightweight woods tool, so I will refine the edge and carve a new handle, once the factory handle loosens up enough for me to remove it. I would buy again, and recommend H&B forge to anyone!

    Amazing quality and craftsmanship

I bought this tomahawk for my son because I love my medium camp hawk so much and wanted him to have a beautiful heirloom quality hawk as well. H&B Forge makes amazing tomahawks that will outlast me and are works of art that actually put in work. I just ordered my third hawk yesterday, they are worth the wait!

The skill and tradition that goes into the forging is apparent. This is the highest quality close-quarters tomahawk on the market. Razor sharp, perfectly balanced, lightweight and maneuverable. Well worth the wait.
